I never thought it would happen so quickly. I started as a probationary employee eight years ago and now I\u2019m the manager of two departments.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\n<strong>Do you need to be fluent in Swedish to work at Protos? <\/strong><br \/>\r\n\u2013 No, but there are great opportunities to learn the language at work. Work has been a way for me to enter society and a place where I get to practise the language every day.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\n<strong>What was it like in the beginning?<\/strong><br \/>\r\n\u2013 It was hard not to understand and I was scared of making mistakes, but it\u2019s been fine. I learn as I go and a lot can be communicated with body language even when we don\u2019t speak the same language.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\n<strong>What advice would you give others who are applying for work?<\/strong><br \/>\r\n\u2013 There\u2019s no need to be scared, you can do it too! I took Swedish lessons at SFI once a week when I first arrived in Sweden. But I learned most of my Swedish here, on the job.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\n<strong>What do you like most about your job?<br \/>\r\n<\/strong>\u2013 I\u2019m learning new things all the time and developing my skills. There are great opportunities for advancing at the company if that\u2019s what you want. My dream is to one day be the boss!<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\n<strong>How did you get into this industry?<br \/>\r\n<\/strong>\u2013 I\u2019ve always been very interested in food and was curious about working in the industry. So, I contacted Gudruns and submitted an application. I\u2019ve been working here since 2016.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\n<strong>Did you receive on-the-job training?<br \/>\r\n<\/strong>\u2013 Yes. I got a licence to drive a forklift. It was a 2-day course that involved both theory and driving. It worked out great and was a lot of fun!<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\n<strong>What are the most important skills and personality traits for working in the meat industry?<br \/>\r\n<\/strong>\u2013 You need to be detail-oriented and committed. If you don\u2019t understand something, it\u2019s important to ask. We slice all the meat \u2013 chops, sirloin, fillet of beef and flank steak. We also make the minced meat and burgers.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\n<strong>What do you like most about working in this industry?<\/strong><br \/>\r\n\u2013 I like that you can grow and develop as a person if you want to.
